Default Somethings *SPAM* gotta *SPAM* be *SPAM* done

Ok ... the title is a lil messed up. Thats because I'm getting a lil miffed with the trade spamming. I have the trade channel turned off and yet people ignorantly REFUSE to advertise in the trade channel.

I'm in Ascalon ... taking a day to actually HELP people who are stuck in the game, need a few items or pointers on where to go. What I get is spam and all caps too like:

WTB SWORD

WTS ||SKINS||INGOTS||IGNORANCE||
WTS ||SKINS||INGOTS||IGNORANCE||
WTS ||SKINS||INGOTS||IGNORANCE||
WTS ||SKINS||INGOTS||IGNORANCE||
WTS ||SKINS||INGOTS||IGNORANCE||

Seriously. I enjoy this game and want to help others out. Only to witness such blantant disregard for others. Something needs to be done to people who do this. The game is supposed to involve interaction with others but from what I can see ... many people are making this experience a frustrating one.

We need some of these local guards to kick some player a$$ and lock em up for an hour or two so they learn to smarten up.

You can disable trade chat with the click of a button. Play around with your chat window, you'll find it.

Once again, somebody posts a message without actually reading the post..as you can see he says he HAS the trade channel turned off...that people DO NOT use the trade channel to trade, they end up spamming the ALL chat...

Oh, shut up. I read the post. I actually don't know how I missed that sentance, heh. Sorry.

I don't seem to run into many All-talk spammers. Sometimes, but not that often. But then, I'm never in Ascalon anymore. Eh, if you're helping people out I guess that's the place to be. Maybe help out the spammers, eh? Tell them about the trade channel if they'll listen. Otherwise, not a whole lot you can do. One step at a time.

I've been putting people on ignore. Anyone know what the limit is for putting people on ignore?

Thats just it ... theres too many people to ignore.

Also, informing people they should use the trade channel is utterly useless because they just keep spamming.

I seriously think some people's accounts should get a temp time out for being asshats, with a reason why they got tossed in the slammer. Then maybe they would think otherwise. Or at least ... think. =\

we desperately need an auction house in this game, or some kind of player vendor mode. That should kill the trade spam.

Since hypocrisy is one of my middle names, I must admit to using more than one line in the trade channel, and occasionally in the all channel, because that sucker scrolls pretty fast and I would like to sell something without standing in place for an hour.

for the lub of jebus, give me a merchant mode or an auction house.

I found that most people use the trade channel when you ask them politely.

You see spam all over the place, even the trade channel is abused to hell, thankfully it's much better than an earlier beta which there was no trade channel.

In heavily populated cities it is even a challenge to advertised your own stuff in trade channels, because there is always some idiot spamming every second or so. But even without one idiot spamming there is often many people advertising so it scrolls quickly

Suggestions:
-Increase the limit to at least 5 seconds for sending repeated messages (by hitting the up key) in cities.
-Do not send ANY messages to normal chat if it contains WTS, WTB and some other key words (make sure to display - "Try the Trade channel to trade items" - to new users)
-Some way to report users that disregard these features
-A dedicated trade section of some kind, you could have a wall in cities to "pin up" ads for items that would cost money, and could be filtered, limits should be placed on these also.
-Maybe a additional filter for the trade channel for each player class - warrior, monk etc.

Aye, but its only a minor problem. I too have found that if you ask them to nicely to go to the trade chan, they usually do. This is do to the fact that the game is still new, so there are ALOT of newbies running around. I dont blame them for that.

The OP's punishment for this is insane, they are not currsing at you. They are simply trying to trade. There would be no real way to do this, do you want someone watching *all* of the text 24-7?

The second poster didnt say anything degrading, he was only trying to be helpfull. Yes he didnt read the full post, but who hasent made a dumb mistake like that. I know I have, and just recently..................

Yeah, I've had to put the regular chat channel on ignore too because people are either too stupid or just don't care to use the trade channel to peddle their wares. How hard is it to understand? It's clearly marked as "trade"

lol yes its true. Be it in regular OR trade channel. If you want to sell anything you too are usually forced into 'up enter up enter up enter' to fight with the other neverending spam; doing nothing but annoying yourself and making people turn off trade. It's just losing customers!

We need something like the auction house; you just put the item in there, with a price, and someone comes along thinking 'i know i want to buy black dye'. So they can 'search' the auction house and it brings up a list. They see yours is 10 cheaper than everyone elses, they buy and suddenly you have money in your pocket! yay!

It takes all but a few seconds to figure out what the channels are and mean. If you have enough intelligence to be able to create an account, you should have enough to realize how the channels work.

not to mention a lot of these 'newbies' are in Lions Arch I don't mind it in pre-sear coz sure, most of them probably are new to the game. Fair enough. Heck I wouldn't mind it post-sear as long as it wasn't spammed every 5 seconds!

Tell the person doing it to use trade channel. Boycot trading with anyone who keeps using main chat for trades. Tell other people to do that aswell.

i usually do say it but they either ignore you or just tell you to mind your own. Boycotting them would be good... dunno how many people will do it though... worth a try.

Sadly, this spam hurts only the people who REALLY want to sell/buy something. How can one follow a conversation if someone spams the world declaring he wishes to sell a rusty butterknife of -2 health degeneration for 500 gold?

I honestly don't know about the auction houses: how hard will they be to impliment?
